Known as the “tree of life”, the coconut palm gives man its wood for his shelter and fruits for food. As one of the most important agricultural crops in Bicol Region, it yields timber; alcohol; vinegar; strips and fiber for making baskets, mats, rope, brooms; fuel; and for feeding domestic animals and for fertilizer.

Commonly known in the international trade as Manila Hemp, abaca is considered the strongest of natural fibers. The fiber is mostly for cordage (ropes) and handicraft goods like bags, placemats slippers, doormats and others. When converted to pulp, the fibers find extensive use in specialty paper making.

QUEEN PINEAPPLE

The queen pineapple is one of the sweetest varieties of pineapples in the Philippines. The small and very spiny plant gives a small conical fruit (0.5 to 1 kg), with deep-yellow shell and small prominent eyes. Its golden yellow pulp is crispy and sweet with an excellent flavor and long shelf life.
